I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself! My name is Ms. Wood and I am the new K-5 School Counselor. I am so excited to be part of the Custer Elementary family; already it is so apparent how close-knit and welcoming the community is, I feel very lucky to be part of it!
As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. Many times I get puzzled looks when I say I provide career development at the elementary level, but it is never too early for children to be exposed to the opportunities their futures will hold! I love working with elementary students because of the genuine curiosity students have in their learning and the world around them, as well as the opportunity for early intervention support that can have a lifetime positive impact on a child. I look forward to offering support to the Custer students, staff, families, and community. I will be meeting with students individually and in small groups, conducting classroom counseling lessons, meeting with parents, collaborating with teachers and staff, and consulting with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all Custer Elementary School students. I have created a resource hub for students and families to access. It includes a contact form, my office hour information, school resources, a calm down webpage, and my weekly lessons (Wednesday Wellness). Students click the link to each Wednesday, find their grade, and watch the lesson. You can access the link here, at the bottom of this email, or through your student’s Google Classroom. If your family needs help with school supplies, please let me know. I may be able to help you. I am so excited to work with your children and get to know you throughout the school year! If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or (360) 383-9439 at any time. I will get back to you as soon as I can.
