Hello Custer Families, I hope that you have been able to get outside and enjoy these sunny days. This week’s Wednesday Wellness counseling lesson introduced the idea of self-care to our students. I wanted to extend the topic to the parents, caregivers, and guardians of our community. You are such an amazing group. Read further to learn about resources within the community and to gather tips on self-care. -Ms. Wood Community Resources As we get into the routine of the school year, I wanted to make sure that everyone is aware of resources available to us. Please let me know if you have any questions about any of these programs! You can reach me by email at [email protected] or by phone at (360) 383-9439.

Custer has started to get into the swing of things. It has been so great to meet the community and see students getting settled into their new classes. I can not believe the flexibility, resiliency, and growth mindset that the community shows!
To keep you in the loop, here's what has been going on with the School Counseling program and what exciting things are to come! Throughout the fall, I will be conducting student lunch bunches, provide extra supports, and looking for ways to support students and families with their social-emotional well-being and mental health. I am going to work hard with the Custer community to ensure that our Custer Cougars receive the best remote learning experience that we can provide.
Ms. Wood I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself! My name is Ms. Wood and I am the new K-5 School Counselor. I am so excited to be part of the Custer Elementary family; already it is so apparent how close-knit and welcoming the community is, I feel very lucky to be part of it!
As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. Many times I get puzzled looks when I say I provide career development at the elementary level, but it is never too early for children to be exposed to the opportunities their futures will hold! I love working with elementary students because of the genuine curiosity students have in their learning and the world around them, as well as the opportunity for early intervention support that can have a lifetime positive impact on a child. I look forward to offering support to the Custer students, staff, families, and community. I will be meeting with students individually and in small groups, conducting classroom counseling lessons, meeting with parents, collaborating with teachers and staff, and consulting with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all Custer Elementary School students. I have created a resource hub for students and families to access. It includes a contact form, my office hour information, school resources, a calm down webpage, and my weekly lessons (Wednesday Wellness). Students click the link to each Wednesday, find their grade, and watch the lesson. You can access the link here, at the bottom of this email, or through your student’s Google Classroom. If your family needs help with school supplies, please let me know. I may be able to help you. I am so excited to work with your children and get to know you throughout the school year! If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or (360) 383-9439 at any time. I will get back to you as soon as I can. |
